My light is your light … tells of the uncertainty of existence. They are refugees , the life-size figures of curved neon tubes. They stand as if they have just come from a distant land sailing along . The refugees were devised by artist alaa minawi ( indeed, without capital letters ). minawi is, like his father and grandfather, a Palestinian refugee living in Lebanon.
This light sculpture by alaa minawi can be found next to the Hermitage in Amsterdam.
“When people leave their cities against their will, they don’t just leave houses, friendships, toys, and valuable belongings; they lose their skin and limbs fall apart and fades in the memories, they become lines. Lines of light,” says alaa, as he describes his installation. (source: barakabits.com)
